Hello!
My name is MaddyJo Shafer, and I’m 19 years old. I live with cerebral palsy along with several other disabilities, which have shaped my perspective and my passion. My heart is dedicated to promoting accessibility in special needs ministry, especially here in Colorado. To support this vision, I founded a mission called "Disabilities Matter Because of Jesus." Through this initiative, I aim to create opportunities for both children and adults with disabilities to engage with the Bible and the teachings of Jesus more easily.
Allow me to share my testimony: When I was just 9 years old, my dad sat me down for an important conversation. He helped me understand the concepts of sin and death, and how, without genuine repentance, I wouldn’t be able to live with God eternally. That day, I prayed for God’s forgiveness and made the decision to follow Him. A couple of months later, I took a significant step by getting baptized—a beautiful moment when my dad baptized me in a hotel pool.
As I grew older, I faced some challenging times and found myself slipping back into some of my old ways. It was during a Bible camp, while listening to the powerful testimonies of missionaries, that I realized my calling. It became clear to me that I wanted to work in ministry specifically for individuals with disabilities. This revelation led to the birth of DMBOJ (Disabilities Matter Because Of Jesus).
Since then, I have been making my mission more public and actively ministering to people with special needs. I feel incredibly blessed to be able to combine my personal experiences with my faith to help others access the love and teachings of Jesus in a meaningful way.
